HSE Definition of Violence
“Any incident, in which a person is abused, threatened or assaulted in circumstances relating to their work.”
H&S at Work Act 1974
S2. It shall be the duty of every employer to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health safety and welfare of all their employees.
Management of H&S at Work Regulations 1999
Employer shall make an assessment of the risks employees & non employees are exposed to.
IMPORTANT: The risks of not providing the appropriate training for your employees that face the possibility of coming into contact with those who are either fractious or violent are many fold.
No win no fee companies frequently take to court each year members of staff who inadvertently cause physical harm to others whilst at work and in the line of duty.
To date growing numbers of staff are taking their employers to court because they have been assaulted at work and did not receive the appropriate training (if any) in regards to how to deal with adverse situations i.e. conflict and violence at work.
If you hold a managerial or an executive position within your company, firm or establishment now is the time to acquire the correct training for staff and those placed within your charge.
