First Aid at Work (FAW)

 

 Duration

This 3 day course (18 hours) consists of theory and practical work.

Minimum age: 16 years & above.

The First Aider.
What is First Aid?
First Aid in the Workplace.
Responsibilities of the First Aider.
Action in an Emergency.
Primary Assessment.
Secondary Assessment.
Breathing and Circulation.
Principles of Resuscitation.
Disorders of Respiration.
Disorders of the Circulation.

Day 2
Recap Paper 1.
Wounds and Bleeding.
Disorders of Consciousness.
Foreign Objects.
Burns and Scalds.
Bones, Joints and Muscle Injuries.
Poisoning.
Incident Training.

Day 3
Other Conditions.
Casualty Management (Including Recap).
Resuscitation Procedures (Recap in General).
Incident Management (Recap on all areas).
Multiple Assessments.

 

 Assessment Process

Each candidate will undertake a variety of assessments i.e. 3 practical and 1 written (multiple choice).  The course instructor will closely monitor each candidate's progress during the entire course and provide additional learning support if required.


 Qualification

A HSE approved First Aid at Work (FAW) qualification will be awarded to each candidate who successfully completes this course.  This qualification is valid for a period of 3 years.  Candidates will also receive a comprehensive First Aid at Work (FAW) handbook at the beginning of the course.  A 2 day re-qualification course is available upon request.
